SUMMARY:Historical High Town and Beyond
DESCRIPTION:Did you know that High Town once had a cinema\, trams\, and even a windmill? Or that the end of High Town Road was chopped off by the Midland Railway company 160 years ago? Or that Wardown Park has a tree dedicated to a warship that Luton adopted during World War II? \nJoin us for a photographic journey centred on High Town\, from the 1860s to the present day\, with local historian and archivist Chris Grabham. Over two sessions you’ll discover some of the fascinating history and hear stories about this historic part of Luton. We’ll also look at some of the town centre’s lost buildings and see how the railways separated High Town from the centre of Luton. We’ll even stray over the border into Round Green! \nPart one takes place on Friday 14 August and part two is on Friday 21 August. You are welcome to attend just one of the talks\, but we recommend attending both to benefit from a fuller story of High Town and beyond. \nBook Historical High Town and Beyond Part One \nBook Historical High Town and Beyond Part Two \nThis event is part of the Luton 150 events programme\, celebrating the 150th anniversary of Luton becoming a borough in 1876. \nThere are a number of events taking place across the town this year to celebrate Luton’s heritage and look forward to the future of our town. \nTake a look at all the events taking place this year on the Step Forward Luton150 webpage. \nTake a look at Step Forward Luton’s Luton150 photo gallery.

SUMMARY:The Luton Sleepout
DESCRIPTION:Because everyone in Luton deserves a home.\nSaturday 21st March 2026 \nWhen we think of homelessness\, we often picture someone sleeping rough. But across Luton\, homelessness takes many forms: sofa surfing with no fixed address\, families in temporary accommodation\, people fleeing unsafe homes. \nThis March\, three local charities are coming together to give you a glimpse of what it means to sleep somewhere unfamiliar; somewhere that isn’t home. Noah Enterprise\, IMPAKT Housing & Support\, and Stepping Stones are uniting for one night at Luton Point. Between us\, we support people across every part of the homelessness journey: from street outreach\, to emergency and supported housing\, to helping those escaping domestic abuse rebuild their lives. \nThis isn’t a simulation of rough sleeping. It’s a chance to step outside your usual surroundings and experience just a small part of what so many people face every day. Join us in the car park or inside for families and groups.

SUMMARY:Petroc Trelawny's Quiz Night
DESCRIPTION:Music on Mondays opens its 80th anniversary season with an unusual social event hosted by President of Luton Music Club Radio 3’s Petroc Trelawny. After a short introductory history of the club\, Petroc will interview one of our distinguished vice-presidents\, the composer Michael Berkeley. He will be invited to reminisce about his own associations with the club over so many years and perhaps those too of his father Sir Lennox Berkeley. Leading into the interval there will be a short performance by two of the talented young musicians who are to appear later in the season\, clarinettist Reynold Yang and pianist Ruiqi Fang. They will perform Michael Berkeley’s Flighting for solo clarinet and the Fantasia on Themes from I puritani by Vincenzo Bellini and Luigi Bassi. \nAfter refreshments\, the second half of the evening is devoted to a music quiz led by Petroc. It will in part be based on the content of his new best-selling book\, Petroc Trelawny’s Classical Music Puzzle Book; there will also be questions on the cultural life of Luton and in particular the recent history of Luton Music. \nThe event will be held in the church hall at St Mary’s Church LU1 3JF.

SUMMARY:Speak Low\, Rise High
DESCRIPTION:Join us for an evening that’s all about the people who make Luton what it is today. SUMMARY:A Walk in the Park - Foxdell Recreation Ground / Chaul End
DESCRIPTION:A Walk in the Park is a programme of easily accessible walks for all ages running monthly in Luton (every first Wednesday of the month). \nA Walk in the Park provides an opportunity to: \n\nBoost your health and well-being whilst taking a short walk around a natural space and practice some mindfulness in nature.\nExplore green spaces in Luton.\nMeet like-minded people and make new friends.\n\nLearn about the natural world and opportunity to share your own knowledge or experiences. \nThe aim of the programme is to encourage exploration of scenic parks and green spaces right on your doorstep\, at the heart of Luton.\nThe walks will be led by staff of Wildlife Trust Bedfordshire and volunteers. \nAll ages welcome! \nJoin us for our first wellbeing walk of 2026\, exploring the Foxdell / Chaul End area on the edge of Luton. \nWe’ll meet at 2:00pm at Foxdell Recreation Ground car park before setting off on a circular walk to discover this hidden green space. \nOur route will take us across the bridge over the M1 towards Chaul End\, exploring a variety of habitats along the way. We will then turn back\, walking along the edge of the new housing estate and through pockets of woodland\, before returning to the car park at approximately 3:30pm. \nThere is a free car park adjacent to Foxdell Recreation Ground\, next to Foxdell Junior School\, which can be accessed from Dallow Road. \nIf using the What3Words website or app\, please use the following location for the meeting point:\n///friday.topped.fund (Foxdell Recreation Ground Car Park). \nAccessibility in the Foxdell / Chaul End area can be limited due to uneven or muddy paths and some steep slopes\, so a moderate level of fitness is required for this walk. Please get in touch if you have any mobility concerns or questions about the walk. \nPlease dress appropriately for the outdoors\, including suitable footwear for soft paths. The paths may be muddy and slippery\, so we recommend hiking boots with ankle support\, and walking poles if you have them. \nFor any enquiries please contact Ieva on 07871 987381 or ieva.piraga@wildlifebcn.org \n*Please note\, this is a free well-being walk. Only reserve a place if you intend on joining the walk as these walks are very popular and there are limited spaces available. If you are unable to attend the walk after booking\, please do cancel your ticket to give other people a chance to reserve a space.  \n** If you wish to make a block booking for more than 4 individuals for the upcoming walk\, please contact Ieva on ieva.piraga@wildlifebcn.org.uk.

SUMMARY:This October on PLATFORM!
DESCRIPTION:After the success of our first PLATFORM event in July\, we are excited to present another evening of works-in-progress. \nPLATFORM is more than just a performance opportunity – it’s a welcoming and lively space for local Lutonian creatives to present works-in-progress and test out ideas with a live audience. \nEach event offers emerging artists the opportunity to develop their work in collaboration with peers and audience members who can offer insight and feedback. \nFor the audience\, it’s an intimate look into the artistic process — vibrant\, versatile and deeply human. It’s a place for the community to support Luton’s art scene and feel inspired. \nCome to share. Come to support. Come to be moved. \nAre you also an artist or creative practitioner? Are you interested in having a ‘platform’ to share your work? Please visit out our opportunities page to check for regular call outs for upcoming events. We’d love to hear from you! \nTo mark Black History Month\, we are prioritising applications from Black artists who live\, work and/or study in Luton for PLATFORM this October.
