SUMMARY:AWAKEN
DESCRIPTION:Join 5D Theatre as we take AWAKEN onto Luton Henge for a unique site-responsive script reading. Experience a specially adapted section of the play\, brought to life in this sacred\, community-built stone circle.  We want to invite you into this experience to help shape the journey of the full performance of the play.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \nCommissioned by Revoluton Arts\, this site-responsive\, script-in-hand reading shares a 20-minute section of the play in honour of Luton Henge’s new amphitheatre. Taking place on International Women’s Day\, 8 March 2026\, the event invites audiences to gather\, listen\, and bear witness in a space rooted in collective making and ancestral memory. \n \nSet in 1653\, AWAKEN follows Sarah Spindler\, a maidservant on the run after being accused of witchcraft in a society where women’s lives are constrained by fear\, superstition\, and control. Fleeing into the woods with her trusted companion\, Sarah must confront whether escape is possible\, or if her destiny has already been claimed.  Written in the working-class language of Canting\, which predates Cockney\, AWAKEN gives voice to the forgotten stories of women\, cunning folk\, and working-class communities erased from official histories. \n \n\nBOOK HERE\n\n\nThe reading is created by a female-led creative team: writer\, actor\, and producer Cheryl Prince; director and actor Law Ballard; and co-producer and performer Ellie Zeegen. This event celebrates the space\, amplifies women’s voices\, and encourages dialogue with the local community to shape AWAKEN’s ongoing development. \n \nIn celebration of International Women’s Day\, we’ll also host a panel of inspiring women discussing women’s history\, wellbeing\, and theatre. \n \nA Revoluton Arts project created by Cheryl Prince of 5D Theatre\, supported by Arts Council England.

SUMMARY:Hasbian
DESCRIPTION:How did Beth go from a childhood dreaming of The Wizard of Oz\, to cringey Cruel Intentions-obsessed adolescence? From proudly identifying as a teenage lesbian\, to discovering that boys are also appealing? \nBeth’s real teenage diary is brought to life in vivid hilarity in Hasbian: a “simultaneously relatable and educational… unique insight on growing up queer in the 90s” (★★★★★ – A Young-ish Perspective). Original animations\, inspired by teen magazines\, feature an all-star 00’s fantasy cast (in cut-out form)\, as Beth’s BFFs and first crushes are re-imagined as “played by” the likes of Lindsay Lohan\, Natasha Lyonne and Ashton Kutcher. \nDripping in equal measures with heartfelt earnestness\, sharp irony\, and humour that bubbles up in the place between youthful confidence and pubescent self-doubt\, Hasbian delves behind the rollercoaster of teenage life\, into the reality of growing up queer in Brighton (the UK’s Gay Capital) under Section 28 (1988-2003 law\, prohibiting teaching “homosexuality as a pretended family relationship”). Set to a soundtrack of y2k pop classics (B*Witched\, Destiny’s Child\, S Club 7)\, and indie angst anthems (Placebo\, Weezer\, Garbage) Hasbian fills audiences with buzzy nostalgia\, while exposing prejudice in the most liberal of cities. \nFrom the creators of Queer Diary – the night where LGBTQIA+ adults read their real teenage diaries on stage. \n Trigger Warning: Whilst the tone of Hasbian is comedic\, it is set in the late 90s/early 00s and contains truthful depictions of attitudes\, language\, and experiences of the time. \nThis includes: descriptions of bullying with use of homophobic and biphobic language\, sexually predatory/objectifying behaviour\, and one description of an incident of physical violence. The show also makes critical reference to contemporary transphobia.

SUMMARY:Fixing
DESCRIPTION:When Matt was little\, their dad bought a classic car. A 1952 Sunbeam Talbot Mark II. Dad had ideas that he and Matt would do it up\, repair\, rebuild together. They never did\, and the car festered in a garage. \nI mean\, Dad had just been through a divorce. \nNow in their 30’s\, Matt would like to learn how to fix a car engine. They’d like to learn a bit more about Dad\, and that time\, when Dad and Mum split up. The time when Matt and Dad were closest. \nMatt can’t do this alone\, which is tricky for a solo show. That’s where Matt’s drag alter-ego Natalie Spanner comes in. She knows all about things that girls like Natalie know about. Like how to build an engine. About maintenance\, care and repair. \nTogether\, Matt and Natalie will try to ask\, in an increasingly broken world\, how might we repair ourselves\, together? \nAdvisories: \nSexual references/innuendo\, references to divorce\, reference to child going missing

SUMMARY:Why Didn't I Get Married
DESCRIPTION:BACK BY POPULAR DEMAND “WHY DIDN’T I GET MARIED”? \nAlan Charles is back-and this time\, he’s not pulling any punches. \nIn his latest and most explosive stage production yet\, “Why Didn’t I Get Married?”\, Charles rips the bandage off a long-simmering wound in the Black Christian community: the crisis of singlehood among Black women in the church. \nWith a raw\, courtroom-style drama as its vehicle\, this side tickling laugh out loud play asks the question many have dared to whisper but few have said aloud: Should the Black church be held accountable for the high number of unmarried Black women in its pews? \nThe production has just completed 5 consecutive sold out shows including Questors theatre (Ealing)\, Old Rep theatre (Birmingham)\, Library theatre (Luton)\, Broadway theatre (Catford) and Crescent theatre Birmingham. Such is the success and the overwhelming demand for the play that the production will be heading to Luton Library theatre on SAT 18 JANUARY 2026

SUMMARY:Cinderella Goes All Inclusive - £5 Theatre pantomime
DESCRIPTION:There’s never been a pantomime quite like this one! \nBack in 2022 Dunstable-based playwright\, Jonathan Goodson\, persuaded Lazy Bee Scripts that they should publish a version of Cinderella where the title character is a wheelchair user. The first of its kind. But where to find the leading lady? The answer – it turned out\, more than 2 years later – was on the doorstep in Luton! \nCome see history being made as local actor and singer\, Julia Mark\, tells the tale of Cinderella like it has never been told before. You can also expect some seductive stepsisters; a brutal Baroness; an easily perplexed Prince; and an unusually bouncy Buttons. With twists galore\, panto mayhem to delight the whole family\, and humour that may tickle you in some very strange places – this is a show you do not want to miss! \nAt Five Pound Theatre\, inclusivity isn’t just about the cast\, it’s about keeping tickets for amateur theatre affordable to a local audience. Please help spread the word! \nThe building is fully accessible for wheelchair users. Row A is reserved for visitors who will be watching the performance from their wheelchairs. To book these spaces\, please contact the event organiser by email: fivepoundtheatre@mail.com

SUMMARY:Utter! Lutonia
DESCRIPTION:The Lyrical\, the Satirical and the Necessary \nLuton’s spoken-word scene owes a lot to the things Paul Rafferty did in the 90s . . . now he’s coming back to share some of the things he’s done since.  Luton’s arts-scene now owes a reasonable amount to Rae Leaver-Rahman and we are delighted to have her on the bill too.  Local musician and artist Gary Abram debuts new material and Mark Billington brings his unique point of view and so does Britny Virginia.  Finally\, a poet Luton forged and formed (and fresh from almost winning the Forward Prize in 2019 with Truth Street) David Cain shares his new collection with the Luton cognoscenti.

SUMMARY:Mrs Armitage on Wheels
DESCRIPTION:“WHAT THIS BIKE NEEDS…\,” says Mrs Armitage \nIf you could change anything on your bicycle\, what would it be? A comfy new saddle? An ice cream maker? Rocket boosters?!  \nWhen Mrs Armitage goes out for a ride with her trusty dog Breakspear\, she decides her bicycle needs improvement. With a new horn\, a picnic hamper…and a sail\, will Mrs Armitage be able to keep her bicycle in one piece or will her crazy contraption prove too much to handle? \nAdapted from Quentin Blake’s classic tale\, Mrs Armitage on Wheels\, Scoot Theatre present a 40-minute interactive\, energetic show\, celebrating the joy of getting outdoors and being active. Scoot Theatre’s adaptation is a fun\, family show suitable for aged 3+ and particularly enjoyable to primary-aged children\, featuring live music\, puppetry and physical comedy\, Mrs Armitage on Wheels celebrates the power of imagination\, the importance of resilience and the joy of embracing the great outdoors. \nPartnering with Farnham Maltings and Arts Partnership Surrey\, Scoot Theatre have developed Mrs Armitage on Wheels as a touring production through collaborative theatre workshops in several Surrey schools and nurseries. Developing the story with early years and primary children has created a highly physical\, almost non-verbal performance\, drawing heavily on clowning and playfulness. The piece is accessible on many levels\, with wide audience appeal.
