SUMMARY:Heritage Open Day: Town Hall tours
DESCRIPTION:Heritage Open Days is England’s largest festival of history and culture\, and we’re celebrating by offering FREE tours of Luton Town Hall for the public. \nOpened in 1936\, the town hall that stands today is not the original. The first town hall\, built in 1848\, was burned down during the Peace Day Riots in 1919. The current town hall was erected in 1936\, and still stands in Luton town centre today\, complete with art-deco interiors and ornate committee rooms and chambers. \nOn this tour\, you’ll have access to areas of the town hall that aren’t often open to the public\, like the Silver Room\, Mayor’s Parlour (tbc) and the Council Chamber. \nThe tours will cover the history of the town hall\, Luton Borough Council and our civic heritage. \nTour information\nTours will last approximately 1 hour. Please note that children should be accompanied by a parent or adult at all times. \nTours will run at 10.45am\, 11:45am and 12:45pm.  \nBOOKING IS ESSENTIAL. Book online here. \nGetting here\nThe closest car park is Luton Library Road car park (Library Rd\, Luton LU1 2NG). The town hall is approximately a 5 minute walk. \nIf you are travelling by bus\, please check which bus stop on your route is closest. This might be Luton Station Interchange\, which is approximately a 7 minute walk. \nMeeting point\nPlease meet at the reception entrance on Upper George Street. This is the entrance with the glass automatic doors. \nAccessibility and Blue Badge parking\nThe tour will include some stairs\, however lift access is also available. Accessable toilet facilities are located on the ground floor. \nBlue Badge parking is available at Library Rd\, Luton LU1 2TR. The town hall is approximately a 5 minute walk\, which is flat across St George’s Square\, and with a slight incline up Upper George Street. DESCRIPTION:Community sport and physical activity day for all ages and abilities comes to St George’s Square \nLuton Council will be hosting a community sport and physical activity day in St George’s Square on Saturday 7 September from 11am to 3pm. This event is to encourage residents to be more active\, find out what is being done to help residents to be more active locally and to further understand the barriers to physical activity within the town. \nThe event will feature stalls from various local and community organisations\, such as Total Wellbeing Luton\, Active Luton\, Luton Town Community Trust\, Goodgym\, ABCD Luton\, Edible High Town and Penrose Roots. Luton Council’s public health team will also be in attendance\, highlighting what is being done to support residents to be more active as part of the sport and physical activity strategic delivery plan as well as an opportunity for residents to provide their feedback. \nPlease do come down and get involved!
