As part of Heritage Open Days 2025, the Hat Factory Arts Centre will host Hidden in Plain Sight, a community photo exhibition celebrating Luton’s architectural character through its overlooked details – tiled doorsteps, carved plaques, decorative brickwork, fading signs and more.
This year’s theme is Architecture – and we want you to help tell the story of Luton’s overlooked beauty. Forget full facades – we’re after the details: the tucked-away carvings, curious chimneys, old signage, or date stones you’ve never noticed before.
The exhibition features photographs submitted by Luton residents and visitors, each capturing a small piece of the town’s built heritage that might otherwise go unnoticed. Submissions are open to all, regardless of photography experience. No specialist equipment is required – a mobile phone is enough.
Selected entries will be exhibited in print at the Hat Factory, shown digitally across the Hat District, and shared online. Each selected participant will also receive a high-quality print of their work.
Want to take part?
Submissions are open until Monday 9 September 2025.
A free mobile photography guide is also available to help you get started: https://hatdistrict.co.uk/heritage-photography-guide
