Join us for a powerful evening celebrating the people, voices and working-class heritage that shape Luton today. Through stories, theatre and conversation, this event brings local history and lived experience to the forefront.
At the heart of the evening is Cheryl’s creative project, exploring the language, culture and identity of her Luton upbringing. Drawing on community collaborations and historical research, the event weaves together stories of migration, working lives and resilience, alongside insight into Cockney, slang and the lost working-class language Canting that inspires her stage play AWAKEN.
Expect readings, shared memories and live contributions from local communities, writers and residents—an honest, moving celebration of Luton’s cultural voice.
