Heritage Open Day at the Walled Garden at LUTON HOO ESTATE
Welcome to England’s largest festival of history and culture!
Every September thousands of volunteers across England organise events to celebrate our fantastic history and culture. It’s your chance to see hidden places and try out new experiences – all of which are FREE to explore. Expanding and diversifying from 701 events at its launch to over 5,000 today, Heritage Open Days continues to flourish with more events every year, reflecting the rich and diverse cultural heritage of England and its communities. Spanning the public, private and voluntary sectors, the festival is a unique and powerful partnership. Working with organisations and individuals across England, Heritage Open Days is our national local festival. There are always new stories to tell and new places to open. It’s a chance for communities nationwide to come together to learn, explore and have fun by sharing the treasures on their doorstep.
Every year the Walled Garden Opens its doors for one of our busiest days of the year.
Wednesday is Heritage Open Day – and its FREE!
Come and see how much the garden has changed and grown since the project began over 20 years ago. It’s not just a unique Capability Brown designed octagonal walled garden, there is always something new being researched, repaired, restored, or displayed, with new discoveries unveiled throughout the season and the garden kept in all its seasonal glory to explore.
Incredible historical resources from Bedfordshire Archives will be available in the Conservatory throughout the day and supplementary tours will leave from the garden entrance at staggered times (no need to pre book) The garden shop will be open to take home something freshly ‘harvested’ from the Walled Garden and hot and cold drinks, snacks, light lunches and cake will be available from the Woodyard Coffee Shop – a short stroll through the Woodland Walk or with its own dedicated FREE parking.
