A fascinating and historic Capability Brown designed Walled Garden with unique service buildings now the focus of a dynamic volunteer project. A unique garden with a rich and diverse history.
Visit our unique octagonal Walled Garden and historic service buildings including propagation houses and a timber framed Mackenzie Moncur conservatory dated circa 1911. Today the site comprises a five-acre garden surrounded by the original 18th century octagonal wall, designed by Capability Brown in the late 1760s for John Stuart, 3rd Earl of Bute, noted botanist and Prime Minister under George III.
Pop by the garden shop for the season’s latest offerings … or simply take a seat in the beautiful calm of this historic walled garden. The garden is filled with fascinating information and displays with plenty of opportunities to relax along the way. The Woodyard Coffee Shop is a short stroll away (or with separate adjacent parking) to keep you refreshed throughout your visit with hot and cold snacks and light lunches.

Access
The garden is old and each incarnation has left its mark. We have made great effort to ensure as much of the garden and surrounding service buildings are accessible by wheeled access, but some areas; inside the propagation houses and vinery, are not. Where there is no access we have provided signs and marshals will be on hand to assist where possible.
Additional Information
Supplementary historic tours will be available on the day at an extra cost. Please see information at the garden entrance. Contact for the day: Molly Draper 01582721443
