Personal reflections on a career spent as an LGBT healthcare professional, presented by Simon Hardcastle-Waugh, the ICB’s deputy chief nurse.
Simon Hardcastle-Waugh is a Registered Nurse Child Branch with over 25 years’ experience working with children and young people (CYP), initially in the voluntary sector before moving to the NHS. He has worked as a clinician, senior manager, senior quality improvement manager, head of nursing for paediatrics and neonates, head of commissioning, and associate director for CYP and maternity and now in his current role as Deputy Chief Nurse, Director of Nursing Safeguarding and Vulnerabilities with Bedfordshire, Luton and Milton Keynes ICB.
In his current role, Simon has a wide portfolio including Safeguarding, SEND, mental health, learning disabilities and autism, CYP, palliative and end of life care, and frailty.
Simon is passionate about preparation for adulthood and transition, and has been involved in several local, regional and national projects on transition, especially in the development of guidance and standards for the Open University and Together for Short Lives Talking about sex, sexuality and relationships. He was the clinical lead for transition with the East Midlands NHSE Clinical Network and chairs the East Midlands Regional Transition Network for CYP and young adults with palliative and end of life care.
