Luton Made: Vauxhall

What is Luton Made: Vauxhall?

Vauxhall has a long and important history in Luton. Open from 1905 to 2025, the Luton plant was the biggest employer in the town at one point and even helped serve the country during World War II.

Luton Made: Vauxhall is a heritage project running until the end of June 2026, celebrating the history of Vauxhall in Luton. Since last year, their team have been gathering artefacts, oral histories, photographs and more from former employees of the Vauxhall Luton plant.

From the factory floor to the design studio, and the thousands who passed through the gates each day, this project tells the story of Vauxhall Motors through the voices of those who lived it. Everything they’ve learned and collected will be on display at Stockwood Discovery Centre in their brand new exhibition from Saturday 2 May.

Exhibition & events

From Saturday 2 May to Sunday 28 June, Vauxhall’s extensive history will be available for all to see at the Luton Made: Vauxhall exhibition at Stockwood Discovery Centre. The exhibition will include stories collected from previous employees of the plant, and all manner of artefacts – from name badges to staff awards.

On the opening day, they’re holding a massive family event for all to enjoy! Expect live music, children’s activities, and be the first to see the exhibition! The next day, Sunday 3 May, will see a classic Vauxhall car show at Stockwood Discovery Centre.
