If you’re after a fun, festive outing with little ones this December, we’ve got just the ticket! The new show The Three Bears at Hat Factory Arts Centre is absolutely worth seeing for kids and grown-ups alike.

Right from the start, it’s clear this isn’t your average fairy tale. The Three Bears joyfully remixes the classic story, full of slapstick humour, unexpected twists, and plenty of heart. Instead of just repeating what we all know, it flips the tale on its head. The show adds layers of fun, chaos, and even a gentle message about family and belonging.

The show doesn’t rely on fancy props or long speeches. Performers Ben Miles, Leon Wander, and Daryl Beeton shine with bold physical theatre, exaggerated expressions, and expressive movement. This style is exactly the kind of performance young children respond to instinctively (and adults often end up laughing hardest!). Minimal dialogue and reliance on visuals make it wonderfully inclusive. It works well for pre-schoolers, BSL users, kids learning English, and even toddlers tagging along.

Young children? No problem!

Rebecca Applin composed a lovely soundtrack, and Jonathan Van Beek designed clever sets and costumes. Together, they help transport you into the bears’ whimsical world. For little ones, the show offers a feast for the senses, while adults enjoy enough theatrical flair to stay entertained.

We recently brought along a two-year-old who, to our surprise, stayed fully engaged throughout. Even with excited whispers and delighted “oohs” and “aahs” from children around us, the show flowed smoothly. The energy never dipped, and the performers seemed completely unfazed by the typical chatter of a family-friendly audience.

Inclusivity is at the heart of the show

At just under an hour with no interval, Full House Theatre and Daryl & Co have created something that feels relaxed, fun, and perfectly kid-sized. It’s ideal if you’re trying theatre for the first time with little ones.

The Three Bears runs at the Hat Factory until 24 December, with performances at various times each day. The show is recommended for ages 3+ and their families, though younger siblings tagging along are welcome. The performance takes place on the first floor, with stair and lift access available. Baby changing and toilet facilities are just outside the theatre.

So if you’re in Luton and looking for a festive treat that’s light, lively, and full of laughs, The Three Bears is just right. Tickets can be booked on the Culture Trust’s website.
