Big news for Hatters fans – Luton Town’s final plans for the new 25,000-seater stadium at Power Court have been approved by Luton Borough Council.
The club received outline permission back in 2019, but this latest approval of the detailed plans marks a genuine and exciting milestone for the project.
The development company, 2020 Developments (Luton) Limited, submitted plans in September that include not just the stadium, but also a music venue and hotel.
After 119 years at Kenilworth Road, this represents a massive step forward for the club and the town. While the current 12,000-seater ground has been an incredible home, its location amongst the terraced houses of Bury Park has made expansion impossible.
The new Power Court Stadium isn’t just about increasing capacity – it’s set to be an amazing modern venue with media facilities, conference rooms, and plenty of food and drink outlets. Some serious infrastructure work will need to happen too, including diverting the River Lea and moving a major sub-station.
This is actually part of something much bigger for Luton. The stadium sits within a 20-acre regeneration project that includes new apartments, commercial areas, and new public spaces – all aimed at breathing new life into the town centre.

The club’s targeting 2027 for completion, and they’ve promised more updates soon. It’s been a long road to get here, but this approval means Luton Town is a significant step closer to having a modern home that matches its Premier League ambitions.
Looking ahead, this development isn’t just about football – it’s about creating something that will genuinely transform this part of our town centre. The combination of the stadium, housing, and new public spaces should make a real difference to our town centre for years to come.
But it doesn’t end there! See what other developments are happening in the Luton town centre.
