Ish, a new feature film by director Imran Perretta, will be in cinemas on 31 July, and it was filmed right here in Luton!

Shot on location over several weeks in 2024, Ish follows the story of two best friends Ish and Maram who wrestle to hold onto their friendship in the wake of a police stop and search. As the ripples take hold, the boys try to make sense of the men they are becoming – and how letting go can be the hardest part of growing up.

The two lead actors were given their roles after an open casting call in Luton, and it’s their first ever big screen performance. Farhan Hasnat (Ish) and Yahya Kitana (Maram) are childhood friends – which makes their on-screen portrayals that much more real.

The film has already been nominated for multiple awards, including the audience award at the Venice Critics’ Week at Venice Film Festival 2025 and won Breakthrough Producer at the British Independent Film Awards 2025.

Written and directed by acclaimed artist Imran Perretta and co-written by Enda Walsh (Hunger), Ish was shot by cinematographer Jermaine Canute Edwards (My Father’s Shadow) and also stars singer/songwriter Joy Crookes.

Ish is playing at Cineworld Luton from Friday 31 July.
