On Saturday 27 June, something special landed on the side of Luton Library Theatre: Luton Lifelines, a brand-new mural with a powerful message at its heart.
Two years in the making, this vibrant piece by Hospital Art Studio shines a light on the life-saving impact of blood and organ donation. It’s actually the first community mural in the UK dedicated to this cause, and it’s a real team effort. Local organisations, charities and residents all came together to make it happen, with plenty of workshops, conversations and creativity along the way.
The design tells a simple but moving story. Running through the centre is a ‘lifeline’, surrounded by the six most spoken languages in Luton, each sharing the same message: “gift of life.” Short, but incredibly powerful.
As well as brightening up the space, Luton Lifelines is a daily reminder of something incredible: that giving blood or registering as an organ donor can quite literally save someone’s life.
And here’s the best bit: it’s never been easier to get involved. Luton’s very own blood donation centre is right next door to the Library Theatre. It takes about an hour, but that small act could mean everything to someone in need.
