People from across the town and region came together in Luton on Monday to celebrate our own hometown hero, Myles Smith. The Luton lad put on a range of activities and pop-up experiences throughout the day to celebrate the release of his upcoming debut album, ‘My Mess, My Heart, My Life’ set to release on 19 June.
The day started the same way you’d want any Monday morning to start: with coffee. Myles’ team took over Luton railway station – or Myles End, we should say – to give away free oat lattes. The station was completely redressed with a new name and posters to promote his album.
Later in the day, Mr Chips 29 in Seymour Avenue gave away free fish and chips. Once again, the chip shop was dressed to the nines, creating the perfect photo opportunity for fans!
The best part of the day though was the free mini-concert in St George’s Square, which saw thousands of residents and visitors come together to see Myles perform. If you thought his last pop-up in March was busy, this was another level.
This was real moment of community spirit, with so many Lutonians gathering to celebrate one of their own.
“I grew up not too far away in Leagrave. I’m so happy to be home with you guys. You’ve given me the opportunity to tour the world three times and I’m about to do it again. Before I left, I wanted to come and say ‘hi’ to you.”
Shawn, a local lad who loves singing, was brought up on stage to sing ‘Stargazing’ with Myles, for the second time! The first time he sang the hit song with Myles was up in March during the Hat District pop-up gig. This time, while singing ‘Stargazing’, Myles recognised Shawn and stopped the song to point him out and invite him onto stage!
This was all just one example of the amazing community spirit Luton has. The day may have started by celebrating an album, but it ended with hundreds of Lutonians feeling truly proud of where they come from.
